Life On The Inside Although there are common experiences between inmates, a lot of time it depends on the attitude of the inmate themselves as to whether or not they will stay out of trouble. Former inmates of Davidson County Jail had different experiences. While one stated they couldn't avoid getting into fights the other found that if they just minded their own business they could stay out of trouble. On some level, if you look for trouble, trouble will find you. The jail is broken down into several pods. Apparently, the inmates are segregated pretty much along racial lines. Sexual and violent offenders are also kept away from the general population. Passing The Time To pass the time in Davidson County Jail, inmates are allowed to watch television with a "majority rule" to determine what will be watched. Occasionally a guard might bring in a movie for viewing. There are also cards and board games. Depending on the weather, inmates are allowed outside for several hours each day. As for the meals, incoming inmates are warned to acquire a taste for bologna. One former inmate rated the food as "on a scale of 'sorry' to 'where's the Geneva convention?'" If an inmate has money deposited in their personal account they will have access to the commissary where they can buy snacks and other items. If an inmate needs to take prescription medication former inmates commented that the staff at Davidson County Jail was helpful in making sure those pills were delivered on time. Good Behavior Policy The good behavior policy at Davidson County Jail is two for one. This means that for every day served an inmate who stays out of trouble will have two days taken off their sentence. The most common trouble for inmates is getting caught fighting. Other than that being caught with contraband in their cells can also cause them to lose good behavior time. Visitor and Phone Policy To visit any "guest" of the Davidson County Jail, that inmate will have to set up the time and date. There are no longer and walk-up visits but if someone is visiting from out of town they can be accommodated by contacting the jail case manager. Every visit lasts just 45 minutes and you must be on the inmate's visitor list to be allowed into the facility. You will also have to present a valid photo I.D.
